Kerala Recipes
Breakfast in a Malayali household may consist of one or more of the following dishes:
  • Appam
  • Puttu
  • Idiyapam
  • Idli
  • Dosa
  • Idiyapam

A traditional festival meal, Sadya or Saddya as it is called, is served on a plantain leaf end with the narrow end to the left. It necessarily includes the following dishes:
  • Parripu (Dal)
  • Sambar (Dal cooked with a slight tempering of vegetables like brinjal, drumstick, tomatoes etc)
  • Rasam ( A clear soup)
  • Avial (Assorted vegetables cooked in a paste of grated coconut and curd, spiced with cumin and green chillies)
  • Kaalan (Curry in a curd base)
  • Theyal
  • Olan (Red beans and White Pumpkin cooked in coconut gravy)
  • Thoran
  • Erisseri (Dal and Yam spiced with Cumin)
  • Pulli Inji (Ginger pieces in a spicy tamarind pulp)
  • Pachadi (Raita)
  • Kichadi
  • Chips (Banana/ Tapioca/Jackfruit)
  • Pradhaman/Payasam

The order in which the food is served is of physiological, cultural and religious significance. On the bottom left are placed the Pappadam and Chips. Above these the pickles and Pulli Inji are placed. Now from left to right are served Thoran, Olan, Avial, Kalan, Erisseri and Pachadi. In the middle of the leaf rice is served. On it Parippu, Sambar, Rasam and Curd may be served as per the course. The Payasam/ Pradaman is served between the Rasam and Curd courses. The courses get lighter as the meal proceeds and the addition of digestive tidbits such as Pulli Inji or Lime Pickle ensure complete digestion. Pradhaman or Payasam may be of many kinds but the favorite is Pal Payasam (rice cooked in milk with jaggery or sugar). The order in which the food is served is said to signify the spiritual progress of the soul from materialism (spicy) towards spiritualism (refined and subtle).

Travel to Haryana

Haryana, a state in Northern India is a very famous tourist spot. How to Reach Haryana
Haryana lies close by the side of the national capital Delhi surrounding it on three sides. Naturally Haryana has developed a convenient communication network with the rest of the country. The holy tomb or Samadhi in the Radhaswami Satsang Bhawan Complex measures 101 feet from the base which itself stands on a raised platform of 6 feet.

The Star Monument is a hexagonal pyramid shaped structure where three alternative sides are in white marble, the other three being made of blue Italian glass that are completely weather resistant. The wonder lies in the fact that the building doesn't have pillars or columns to support it. Stars twinkle on the three walls of the Samadhi and inside. A National Tiger Reserve from 1988 onwards, Mundanthurai-Kalakad wildlife sanctuary stretches over an area of 817 sq. km. Road access is from Ambasamudaram (20km) and Kalakad (15 km).Predators other than the tigers include panthers, jungle cats, civets, dholes, jackals and striped hyenas.

It is a safe haven for the endangered species like Nilgiri tahr, Malabar giant squirrel, sloth bear, Indian bison, Indian elephant, mouse deer and pangolin. The Tiger Reserve is open all through the year for tourists between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mundanthurai and Thalayanai Forest Rest Houses provide accommodation for the tourists.

National Highway 1A is the national highway connecting various cities of Jammu to each other and to the rest of India. One can also take JKSRTC (Jammu Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation) buses to travel within the state and the nearby states.
Travel within Jammu and Kashmir The buses operated by JKSRTC connects most points around the state. Some terrains of the state are not that easily accessible, for such areas 4wd jeeps are quicker, but a little more expensive option. Private jeeps are also available to travel within the state.

By Train

By Road
Goa is well linked with National Highway Numbers 66, 4A, 366, 566 and 768. Goa has a total of 224 km of national highways, 232 km of state highway and 815 km of district highway. 
Local Transport
Bus
Buses prove an efficient means of local transport in Goa. Buses in Goa are operated by the Kadamba Transport Corporation and also by other Private Operators at regular intervals, connecting all places in Goa. The city buses in Goa ply in Panaji and adjacent areas and are a great help for tourists and general public as a cheap and quick mode of transport.

Motorcycle and Motorcycle Taxi
One unique feature is the motorcycle taxi. They are very convenient because of their ability to go into interior places where other big vehicles may not be able to go. The motorcycle taxis are distinguished by their yellow mudguards and white number plate. So as far as two-wheelers are concerned, you can either hire a two-wheeler and drive it on your own, or you can just have a joyride sitting on the pillion of a motorcycle taxi. Charges accordingly vary.

Cars
The four-Wheeler variety of local transport in Goa comes in an array of types and budgets. To begin with, coaches and taxis are readily available. Luxury, semi-luxury coaches and tourist taxis can be hired. Moreover, you can also avail the rent-a-car facility in two varieties - chauffeured and non- chauffeured.

Autos
Auto-Rickshaws are widely available in all major places. It is very convenient for commuting and traveling short distances between different towns.

Tariff Rules
  • Minimum charges are for 100 kms per day.
  • Taxes of other States, Toll Tax, Parking Fees, Ferry charges, etc. if payable by GTDC will be charged extra.
  • Night Halt - 8.00 PM to 8.00 A.M.
  • If vehicle is hired or retained before 8.00 AM and after 8 PM, night halt charges will be applicable
  • Charges are from garage to garage.
  • Detention is charged after 8 hours duty.
  • Tourist taxis or yellow-top taxis are also available from private operators throughout Goa and charged on Kilometer-basis or Point-to-Point fare fixed by the Directorate of Transport. Fare chart is available with the driver.
Launches and Flat-bottom Ferry: Taking the water-route is a unique way to travel in Goa. There are several services of boats and ferries in Goa. With numerous creeks and rivers criss-crossing Goa, water transport provides one of the cheapest and easily available mode of transport in Goa. In some places, crossing the water becomes essential if one has to go to the other side; and at such times, taking the services provided by the boats and ferries in Goa is either the only way or the easiest way.
